Gaming Laptops

Laptops are the ultimate convenience computer- small, portable, relatively cheap and easy to use. When considering buying a laptop, most people will name work or study as the driving force behind their purchase, but there does exist a genre of laptops designed specifically for what some would call “time wasting”- gaming laptops.

Although many laptops will allow for gameplay, serious gamers look for certain specifications in their machines. They must be powerful; with a good graphics card and high fidelity sound, a large, high definition screen is preferable, and they must be sensitive to mouse or touchpad interaction.

Among the favourites there are the giants of the gaming world, the HP Pavilion HDX Dragon is one of these, as is the Dell XPS 16. So what do these laptops have that the others lack? For one, they both have premium ATI Mobility Radeon graphic cards that provide excellent visuals during game play. In fact, the greater the amount of pixels, the better these laptops do. Both have a medium and large screen option, with the larger of the two Dell models measuring 16” and the HP an enormous 20.1”. The sound is clear and crisp, with both laptops featuring inbuilt stereo speakers and subwoofer. The HP is particularly impressive with four Altec Lansing speakers and several audio ports to link it up to an independent speaker system should you be after surround sound.

Of course these premium gaming laptops have huge memory cards and long-life batteries, wi-fi compatability and both touchpad/mouse options. If you’re after the crème de la crème of computers, then either of these two are for you. If you’re looking for a decent and inexpensive laptop to play games on however, most brands will feature one or two that are recommended for this purpose. Simply look for a good graphics card, quality sound, a sensitive touchpad/mouse/tablet (whichever you prefer to use) and of course, wi-fi for online gameplay. Find these features and you have a great gaming laptop.
